The Power of Reinvention with Margaret Russell

Morning Keynote
The Power of Reinvention with Margaret Russell, Editor in Chief, Architectural digest.
Architectural Digest Editor in Chief Margaret Russell discusses the evolution of an iconic brad, how to meet the demands of an ever-changing market, and how to find the balance between reinvention and relevance.

Margaret made some very great points and gave designers some tips that they should definitely follow. Branding is a key aspect of the interior design industry that many small designers fall to do properly. Your design should company have one unified brand which includes its logo, website, stationary, and all other relevant materials. Make your name stand out in a cluttered and changing industry. Give yourself a unique style that nobody else can replicate and be consistent with that style you choose. If your style is going to be modern, be sure to your brand reflects that.

The two biggest points that Margaret made were:
  • If you think some of your work might be published in a magezine, don't post it online everywhere. A magazine wants exclusive pictures and stories that their readers can't find anywhere else. If you post your projects on your blog or website it will lose the exclusivity and not be as appealing to the publication
  • The Interior Design is a service industry. You provide your clients with a service so make that service stand out against all of the others. While you are a designer you will also have to be a friend/ therapist/ marriage counselor/ financial manager to your clients as well.
